Nicaraguan coffee and honey glazed nuts food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

1. Nicaraguan Coffee + Honey-Glazed Nuts

Did you know Nicaragua is home to over 40,000 coffee farms?

Most of the coffee grows in the shade, which gives it those rich, complex flavors you can’t quite get anywhere else.

Nicaraguan coffee is beloved for its mild acidity, which helps balance sweetness and makes it a perfect match for honey-glazed nuts.

Plus, nuts are packed with healthy fats, protein, and fiber, setting this caffeinated duo up for fullness, warmth, and energy.

Nuts also bring out the nutty undertone of Nicaraguan coffee, making this pairing feel extra cozy.

For maximum decadence, consider macadamia nuts, Marcona almonds, or sweet pecans.

Our Nicarguan coffee has won awards, so be sure to check it out!

Perfect for: Coffee Shop Snacks, After-dinner desserts

Cold brew and berries food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

2. Cold Brew + Berries

First things first:

Cold brew isn’t the same thing as “iced coffee.”

What defines cold brew is how you make it, not how you serve it—though many people enjoy it over ice or with a splash of cream.

To make cold-brew coffee, you steep coarsely ground coffee beans in cold or room-temperature water for 12 to 24 hours. It’s a staple on every coffee house menu.

The cold brew process helps remove acidity, making the flavor super smooth, and a perfect match for the brightness of berries.

Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries – pick your favorite and enjoy!

Consider enhancing this winning food and coffee pair with cold brews made with beans from Ethiopia or Kenya, which are known for their vibrant, fruity profiles.

Perfect for: Hot summer days, Afternoon pick-me-ups

French press coffee and brie food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

3. French Press Coffee + Brie Cheese

This food and coffee pairing is perfect for channelling a lazy afternoon brunch at a Paris cafe from the comfort of home.

French Press is a simple brewing method that gives coffee a bold, rich flavor. To make it, steep coarsely ground coffee in hot water for about 4 minutes and then press it down with a metal plunger. That’s it.

FYI: You can grab a French press for $20–$100 if you want to try it yourself.

What matches that deep, full-bodied flavor? A soft, buttery wedge of brie cheese. Its creamy texture and gentle tang balance the strength of the French Press brew.

For peak indulgence, spread brie on a warm, crusty baguette, drizzle it with some honey, and let yourself savor the moment.

Perfect for: Slow weekend mornings, Elegant coffee and cheese boards

4. Mocha + Banana Bread

Want to impress your friends the next time you meet at the local coffee house?

Tell them that “mocha” originated in Mocha, a port city on the Red Sea Coast of Yemen.

A mocha is a combination of espresso, steamed milk, and chocolate.

Legend has it that coffee grown in the hills of Yemen, just outside Mocha, was renowned for its rich, chocolatey flavor.

Europeans started referring to the coffee from Mocha as “mocha.” AND added chocolate to it, too! Eventually, the name grew to represent any coffee and chocolate combination.  [1]

It goes fantastically well with banana bread.

Need a banana fact for your friends, too?

Bananas are berries, not fruit. And they’re perfect with chocolate.

Perfect for: Cozy mornings, post-workout treats

Ethiopian coffee and lemon tart food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

5. Ethiopian Coffee + Lemon Tart

Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of coffee, and coffee culture is deeply ingrained into society there.

The story goes that an Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi discovered coffee after noticing his goats became more energetic after eating a particular plant - the coffee plant! [2]

Kaldi started experimenting with the plant for himself and his local community - and coffee, as we know it, was born!

Many Ethiopian coffees, especially from the Sidamo region, have a bright, citrus acidity that makes a lemon tart a winning food and coffee combination.

Psst: Our shop has fair trade organic Ethiopian coffee from Sidamo!

If you want to impress your guests (or yourself), serve this pairing on a sunny afternoon in the garden. Bonus points if a goat is roaming around in the background.

Perfect for: Afternoon tea, Goat-related activities

Pour over coffee with salmon food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

6. Pour Over Coffee + Dark Rye Toast with Smoked Salmon

You can’t be an Alaskan coffee roaster like us without offering a winning food and coffee combo that includes salmon!

Pour-over coffee might sound high-end, but it’s really simple—and many people even use this method when camping!

You only need a cone-shaped dripper, a paper filter, and hot water. Pour the water slowly over the grounds, and boom—you’ve made a clean, crisp cup that brings out the beans' flavor.

Now for the pairing: dark rye toast with cream cheese and smoked salmon. It’s bold, creamy, savory, and perfectly balanced, like the pour-over.

This food and coffee pairing works just as well at the brunch table as fireside in the woods. Just remember to keep that salmon safely stowed away in a bear canister!

Perfect for: Glamping, Slow Sunday mornings

Americano and cardamon spiced buns food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

7. Americano + Cardamom-Spiced Buns

Have you ever heard of hygge? It’s a Nordic concept of cozy comfort—think candlelight, wool socks, and something warm in your hands. Hygge is commonly implemented during Alaksan winters, too.

Enter: the hot Americano with cardamom-spiced cinnamon buns (a Swedish favorite).

Bold, smooth, and comforting, an Americano is espresso blended with hot water for a rich, cozy flavor—pure hygge in a mug.

As for the cardamom, it’s a spice beloved in Nordic countries, commonly used to make buns, breads, and cookies.

If you’ve ever had a Chai Latte, you’ve tasted cardamom—the warm, spicy note gives Chai its signature flavor.

The Americano’s depth balances the spice, while the buns add a buttery richness. Together? A match made for blanket weather—or long, snowy Alaskan nights.

Perfect for: Frosty mornings, candle-lit breaks, and anyone chasing that Nordic state of cozy

Colombian coffee and churros food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

8. Colombian Coffee + Cinnamon-Sugar Churros

If coffee had a celebrity walk of fame, Colombia would have a star—and probably a statue of Juan Valdez. Remember him? The fictional coffee farmer, created in the 1950s, was always pictured with his trusty mule, representing the spirit of Colombian coffee growers.

While Juan isn’t real, the legacy of Colombian coffee is.

Grown in lush mountains with volcanic soil and generations of expertise, Colombia produces some of the smoothest, most beloved beans on the planet. Want to try it? We have organic Colombian coffee right here in our store!

Think caramel, toasted nuts, and a whisper of red fruit in every sip.

Now add churros to the mix—golden sticks of fried dough, with crisp edges, a soft center, and a generous dusting of cinnamon sugar.

You can snag them at a local Spanish bakery, pick up a frozen pack at the grocery store, or make them from scratch if you’re feeling ambitious.

Together, this food and coffee pairing hits the celebrity coffee sweet spot: rich, balanced, and deservedly famous.

Perfect for: Weekend brunches, cultural coffee tastings, and warm afternoons that deserve a little extra flair.

Sumatra coffee and bacon cheddar sandwich food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

9. Sumatra Coffee + Smoky Bacon & Aged Cheddar Sandwich

Bold meets bold in this savory, umami-packed power food and coffee combo.

Sumatra is one of the largest islands in Indonesia, and it's home to some of the world’s most distinctive coffee. Sumatra beans are known for their earthy, full-bodied profile, with deep smoky, herbal, and chocolatey undertones.

This coffee calls for a food pairing with the same bark and bite.

Enter: the smoky bacon and aged cheddar sandwich.

Crispy bacon brings a sweet, smoky punch that echoes the coffee’s roasted depth, while aged cheddar adds rich, nutty sharpness.

Stack it all on toasted sourdough or a crusty baguette, and you’ve got something seriously satisfying.

Want to level up? Add a swipe of whole-grain mustard for extra contrast and bite.

Perfect for: Hearty breakfasts, post-Alaska-hike lunches.

Note: We’ve got organic fair trade Sumatra in our store. It is truly a marvel.

Rwandan coffee and halloumi salad food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

10. Rwandan Coffee + Grilled Halloumi & Fig Salad

Need a pairing that makes an entrance at your next brunch? This one walks in, drops its coat, and starts pouring mimosas.

Rwandan coffee is bright, floral, and bursting with juicy red berries, citrus, and warm spice notes. We like to call our organic, fair-trade Rwandan roast “friendly.”

Yes, friendly is a flavor. At least it is here at Aethereal Coffee. (So is our customer service.)

Grilled halloumi and fig salad matches that charm and elevates it.

Halloumi is a firm, brined cheese that grills golden and chewy. Its salty bite balances the coffee’s natural sweetness. Figs add a jammy, honeyed richness, while arugula, toasted walnuts, and balsamic glaze round it all out.

This one’s more than a food and coffee pairing - it’s a lifestyle.

Perfect for: Brunch with friends, Elevated café menu

Iced latte and pistaccio biscotti food and coffee pairing. Jpg.

11. Iced Latte + Salted Pistachio Biscotti

Chill vibes. Crunchy bites. A pairing built for the stylish sipper.

An iced latte is all about balance. Bold espresso is mellowed by milk and poured over ice for a smooth, refreshing pick-me-up. It’s the coffee equivalent of “effortlessly cool.”

Enter salted pistachio biscotti: nutty, crisp, and salty enough to keep things interesting. The pistachios bring a buttery richness, the salt makes the flavors pop, and the crunch? Well, get ready for some dipping.

Bonus: Pistachios pack in antioxidants, healthy fats, and protein—so yeah, you can feel good about this one.

Dunk, sip, repeat. It’s a pairing that’s equal parts elegant and addictively snackable.

Best for: Warm afternoons, Coffee bar flexes

Espresso and ice cream food and coffee. Jpg.

12. Espresso + Vanilla Ice Cream

It’s a dessert. It’s a coffee. It’s an excuse to pause everything and swoon.

When hot espresso meets cold vanilla ice cream, magic happens. This classic Italian treat is called an affogato. It means “drowned” in Italian.

This food and coffee pairing is all about contrast: hot, cold, bitter, sweet, rich, and creamy.

We make ours with Aethereal Coffee’s award-winning Espresso roast—yes, it’s won international honors, and yes, we’re bragging. That bold, roasted intensity melts right into the ice cream, turning every spoonful into a creamy, coffee-soaked masterpiece.

Affogatos are a staple in Italian cafés, but you can absolutely make them at home. Just scoop and pour.

Want to take your affogato to the next level? Add chocolate shavings, toasted almonds, or a pinch of flaky sea salt.

Best for: After-dinner desserts, impressing guests
